Sarah Louise Tefft Seaman, 83, lifelong resident of Oxford, NY, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on January 15th, 2015. Sarah was predeceased by her parents, James R. and Naomi B. Tefft and her sister Elizabeth "Ann" Tefft. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, sister and friend. Sarah married David Seaman in Oxford on February 1, 1958. Surviving are her husband, David M. Seaman, Sr.; her four children; Sally and Howard Nickerson of Binghamton, NY; David (Crockett) and Gelenda Seaman of Oxford, NY , Lori and John Twomey of Canastota, NY, Lana and Michael Clark of Oxford, NY. Also, six grandchildren: Dave (Melissa) and Heather Seaman, Jesse and Ryan Nickerson , Adam and Cody Clark; four great-grandchildren, Aiden, Damien, Charley-Rose,Contessa; her Brother, William R. and Blanche Tefft; several nieces and nephews, dear family friend Linda Tewksbury and special caretakers Debbie Andrews and Terry Sherwood. Sarah was born in Oxford, NY on October 1, 1931. She graduated from Oxford Academy in 1949 and graduated from Robert Packer Nursing Program in 1953 as a Registered Nurse. Sarah received additional training in Allentown, Pa and Mansfield, MA. She was an Operating Room nurse in Framingham, MA and an O.R. Supervisor at Chenango Memorial Hospital in Norwich, NY. Sarah went to work in 1960 at the WRC Home in Oxford, NY as a clinical nurse; working through the ranks to Director of Nursing. In 1994, she retired from the N.Y.S. Veteran's Home with 34 years of service. After her retirement, Sarah continued to provide care to many individuals requiring in-home care, transportation to medical appointments and general comfort care. Sarah was a member of the United Church of Oxford, Oxford Historical Society, BPOE Ladies Auxiliary and American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed her flower gardens and bird-watching. Sarah loved to celebrate every holiday with special decorations around her home.
Family get-togethers were very important to Sarah. There was always room for anyone who needed a place to feel welcome.
She delighted in sending greetingcards to family and friends for every occasion.
Sarah was known as the "Nurse of the Greene Street Gang", caring for everyone's cuts, scrapes and various boo boo's. As per Sarah's wishes, there will be no funeral service. A Celebration of Sarah's life will be held at a future date. In her memory, donations can be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Chenango County, 21 Hayes Street, Norwich, N.Y. 13815.
