Richard P Gregg

September 14, 1941 — July 20, 2025

Oxford, NY

Richard P. Gregg (Grgurich), a devoted public servant, educator, and man of deep faith, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2025, at the age of 83. Born on September 14, 1941, in Oak Park, Illinois, Richard dedicated his life to serving his community, his family, and his faith.

After growing up in Oak Park, Richard attended Illinois Tech, where he earned a master’s degree in political science. He was also a proud member of the Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity. He returned to Oak Park and held the position of City Manager, where he demonstrated thoughtful leadership and a strong commitment to the public good. After his time in city government, he went on to earn a degree in teaching and became a high school math teacher, inspiring many students with his clarity and patience. Richard later moved to Florida to care for his mother. There, he met his future wife, Louise, and eventually moved with her to Oxford, New York, where he resided until his death.

Richard was a devout Catholic whose life reflected his strong spiritual foundation. He was an active member of his parish, no matter where he lived, serving faithfully as a lector and Eucharistic Minister. He was also a proud member of the Knights of Columbus, where he found fellowship and purpose in serving others.

Richard cherished the holiday gatherings. He especially loved Christmas morning traditions filled with laughter, warmth, and good food (especially desserts) shared among loved ones.

He is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Louise Gregg, and her children: Robert (Laura) Cirello; Paul (Holly) Cirello and their daughter, Kate (Sam) DiStefano; and David (Deeanne) Cirello and their children, Nicholas and Paige Cirello. He also leaves behind his brother, Thomas Grgurich; his nephew, Keith (Ashley) Grgurich; and their children, Madison and Hayden.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Amelia; his beloved sister, Arlene, and her husband, Richard Bieliski; and his sister-in-law, Barbara Grgurich.

Richard will be remembered for his gentle spirit, unwavering faith, goofy jokes, and his enduring commitment to family and community.
