Philip Everett Crooks
On May 19, 1921, all North American wildlife took notice that a sportsman extraordinaire, Philip E Crooks was born to an Endicott, NY couple, Philip and Elsie Crooks. Throughout his teen years, Phil provided fish and game for his family during a time when most went hungry - The Great Depression. In fact Phil's amazing fishing abilities are still discussed by all who knew him. His extensive fly fishing creations and supplies were donated to a local group to help transition a wounded warriors program. His practiced rifle and shotgun shot was always for the family table and not for practice. He rarely missed. During WWII, Phil served his country in the Army Air Corps on the South Pacific Island of Guam where he served as the B-29 Ground Crew Chief for General Doolittle. Following his military service, he lived in Elmira and Horseheads, NY where he raised a family of five with Charlotte Crooks (Hill), the love of his life of 72 years. His career with Hardinge Brothers in Elmira started in the 1940's as a machinist, evolved to line supervision and culminated as Plant Manager in the mid 1980's. Phil was passionate about all that he did and pursued perfection. On November 28, 2017, he slipped quietly into his lovely bride's arms once again. They are dancing a polka or shardosh in heaven's garden to an eternal song they knew they would share again. Phil was predeceased by his wife, and best friend of 72 years, Charlotte (Tomee) Crooks (Hill), his parents, Philip G. Crooks and Elsie Crooks (Anderson), brother, John L Crooks and youngest daughter, Nancy J Strobel (Crooks). Phil is survived by his children, Philip G Crooks (Pam), Karen Van Kleeck (Robert), Carol Vanderpool (Bruce), David Crooks (Tracey) and son-in-law Garth Strobel. Grandchildren, Christie Murphy (Tim),Sara Madzudzo (Regis), Sean O'Bryan, Brendan O'Bryan (Jillian), Dr Jessie Talada (Nate), Becky Lantz (Jason), Amy Cheresnowsky (John), Judd Vanderpool, Emily Cron (Coty), Morgan Crooks (Lauren Sara), Justin Crooks (Allison), Michael Van Kleeck (Stacey), Jenn Van Kleeck, Emma Crooks, Zachary Crooks and 26 great grandchildren.
