Marjorie 'marge' mcdermott

May 28, 1955 — March 23, 2021

Marjorie E. McDermott, 65, of Oxford passed away on March 23, 2021.
Marge was born in Sidney, NY on May 28, 1955, the daughter of the late Willard and Jeanne Bradley, Sr.
Marge is survived by her son Justin (Stacey) McDermott and two granddaughters Addisyn & Isabella of Sherburne. She is also survived by her partner Joe Stude of Oxford, and by her siblings Willard (Joan) Bradley Jr. of Oxford, Cathy VonBehren of Charleston, IL, and Elaine (Jerry) Smith of Oxford. Marge is also survived by her many loving nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Marge was a graduate of Oxford Academy and Central Schools class of 1973 and went on to attend the University of Tampa where she graduated with a bachelor's degree in Education in 1977. While attending The University of Tampa, Marge was on the rowing team and was proud of the championship won by her and her team in 1974. After graduation Marge moved to Georgia where she taught before moving back to upstate NY. Marge then began working for the phone company in Norwich. Throughout her tenure she was moved to their Sherburne location currently known as Frontier Communications where she worked for over 20 years until retirement. Retirement didn't last long, and Marge decided she needed something to do. Marge became a Classroom Aide at Oxford Academy Primary School where she enjoyed working with the staff and students. Marge was a long-time board member of the Norwich Telops FCU and enjoyed their monthly meetings. During the summers, Marge enjoyed working for her brother, Will, at Blue Stone Golf Course in Oxford. She enjoyed the wonderful interactions with the patrons. Marge retired for the second time in 2018 to enjoy the birth of her first granddaughter. Marge focused on helping take care of her two granddaughters whom she loved more than anything. Her granddaughters were the center of her world and she made it possible for them to be cared for by their Grammie in their own home while Justin and Stacey were at work. Marge was a member of the Berean Bible Church of Greene, NY. She enjoyed hiking, bike riding, kayaking, snowshoeing, and listening to country music with her partner Joe. She was always happy to participate in any outdoor activities as well as day trips and camping with Justin, Stacey and her granddaughters. Marge enjoyed scrapbooking, card making and weekly meetings with her church group. She also enjoyed baking and was famous for her peanut butter balls at Christmas time, that friends and family looked forward to enjoying. Marge will always be remembered as a kind, loving, and selfless woman, who loved to smile, was a good listener and always made sure everyone was included, no matter what was going on. She was a Special Aunt to her nieces, nephews, and their children, loving them as if they were her own. Marge always took great pride in her family and her love for them. She will be missed dearly by all those who knew and loved her.
