Lewis P. Jackson, 81 of East McDonough passed away at his home on February 22, 2014 with his family by his side. He was born on May 26, 1932 in Willet, NY a son of the late Phillip and Pearl (Smith) Jackson. On July 7, 1956 in Oxford he married Anna Burkholder, who passed away on April 14, 1991.
He is survived by his children, Theresa and Roy Backo of Sherburne, Holly and Ervin Newberry, Jr. of Ilion, Carl and Danylle Jackson of Oxford, John and Terri Jackson of Norwich and Paul and Doty Jackson of Oxford; his sisters, Virginia Keech of Norwich, Shirley and Richard Canham of Nevada, and Annie Wood of East McDonough; his grandchildren, Tonya and Max Loiselle, Josh Preston, Kyle Preston, Danielle and Cody Bess, Andrea Jackson, Phillip Jackson, Joseph Jackson, Kaitlyn Jackson and Andrew Jackson; his great grandchildren, Mila Loiselle, Ava Loiselle, Logan Preston, Arianna Preston, Fletcher Bess and Rory Canfield; and his special friend, Marion Lee. The family would like to give a special thank you to his best friend, Lewis Hungerford. He was predeceased by his sisters, Doris Fairbanks, Helen MacLaury, Ellen Meade, Josephine Harrington, and Marjorie Osness; his grandsons, Ryan Jackson and Gregory Jackson and his great granddaughters, Giana Rose Davis and Aliyah Grace Preston.
He owned and operated The Jackson Homestead Farm until his retirement in January of 2005. He attended Oxford Academy and Central School. He was associated with the Delsenango Fiddlers Dance Hall in McDonough. He enjoyed his horses, especially working with them on the farm and giving sleigh rides. He also formerly had pulling ponies. He enjoyed reading, especially Readers Digest. His grandchildren and family were very important to him.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 27, 2014 at 11:00 AM from the Behe Funeral Home, 21 Main St., Oxford, NY with Rev. Norman Holtz, pastor of Faith Bible Church, officiating. Burial will be in the spring in Union Cemetery, McDonough.
Friends may call at the Behe Funeral Home, Oxford on Thursday from 9:00 AM until the time of the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the McDonough Fire Department.
