John m phelan

John M. Phelan, Sr. 67 passed away unexpectedly at his residence in Afton. He was born on November 12, 1952 in Brooklyn, NY a son of the late Joseph and Agnes (Preston) Phelan.
John moved to Oxford following his father's retirement from the NYPD. He graduated from Oxford Academy and Central School in 1971. He was a man of many talents and served in many roles. He drove LP truck for Agway in Afton. He then started his own wind turbine business selling and installing many windmills. He designed and patented rescue airboats through his business, RiverCraft, selling them to many emergency response organizations. He also served for many years as Town of Coventry Supervisor and enjoyed hometown politics. His final endeavor was to save a beautiful property from self-destruction, Echo Lake Park. Through out his lifetime his endeavors led him to meet many people and touch their lives and hearts. He was always loyal and proud of his many friendships.
He is survived by his three sons; John Phelan, Jr., Alex Phelan, and Michael and his wife Lauren Phelan and his brother, Joseph and his wife Mallory Phelan, and his special friend, Rebecca.
Due to the current situation a celebration of life will be held at a date and time to be announced.
