John brussell

John Michael Brussell, Sr., of Oxford NY, passed away on Thursday January 7, 2021 at the age of 64. He is survived by his loving wife Sheila (Helton). They shared 38 years and many wonderful memories together.
John was born in Flushing, NY to Frederick and Mary (Digby). He grew up in Levittown, where he attended Memorial High School and earned the rank of Eagle Scout. John went on to serve the in United States Marine Corps for 6.5 years. He was a talented carpenter and woodworker. Always the life of the party, he had a way with words and a tremendous ability to tell a captivating and humorous story. John was loved and will be missed by many.
John loved spending time with his family and friends, and he was always willing and able to help anyone. One of his nephews, Jeffrey, aptly referred to him as a "lovable man". That is a true and honest description of John and something that we will all fondly remember about him.
John's favorite hobby was spending time in his workshop. He was extremely talented, and he used his exceptional carpentry skills to create beautiful and memorable items for family and friends. Those who were lucky enough to receive one of his creations now have something that they can cherish for years to come. John passed on those skills to his son, John, Jr., and now he will carry on his dad's woodworking legacy.
He will be remembered by his son John (Christie); step-daughter Teresa; his siblings Rick (Barbara), Stephen (late Pauline), Virginia Doughty (late Tom), Margaret Slanovec (Fred), Eileen Schulz (Joe), Larry (Eileen), Mary Flood (Jim), Tom, Suzanne McDonnell (Mike), James (Kim), Maureen Coyne (Kevin), and Andrew; and many nieces and nephews. He was a loving "Poppa" to Christine and Savannah.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Behe Funeral Home Inc. 21 Main Street, Oxford, NY 13830.
