James R. Mangels, 76, of Oxford, NY, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, February 18,2026. Jim was born on November 28, 1949 to August and Mae (Gilbert) Mangels in Callicoon, NY. He was predeceased by his parents and by his sister Virginia. Jim is survived by his sister Mary J. Mangels, his brother Charles Mangels, and by his beloved niece Carrie (Shane) Bossman, and their children Sienna, Noah, and Avery Bossman. Jim is also survived by his best friend Jerry Beach and his son Marty. Jim was a graduate of Oxford Academy and Central Schools in 1967, and attended Broome Community College . He worked for many years at Victory Markets, Pergament Home Centers, Eastern Bag, and Tropicana. Jim also drove bus for Chenango Forks and Oxford Schools, and retired from the NYS Veterans Home in 2004. Jim was an avid train enthusiast. He enjoyed reading westerns, mysteries, and railroad history. Jim was a former member of the New York Ontario & Western Railroad Historical Society, and a current member of the Unadilla Valley Railroad Society. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Behe Funeral Home Inc, Oxford, NY. In honor of Jim's wishes no funeral services will be held at this time. A burial will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Jim's memory can be made to the Oxford Emergency Squad 20 Main Street, Oxford, NY 13830 or to the American Heart Association
