George Charles Schwager

GEORGE C. SCHWAGER

It turns out Superman was mortal after all. However, he leaves no story untold, no garden unharvested, no goal unaccomplished. George Charles Schwager, 93, passed away on October 31, at the Oxford Vet’s Home.

Born May 15, 1933, in Saddle River, New Jersey, George was the child of George P. Schwager and Catherine (Winkler) Schwager.

George graduated from Ramsey High School in 1951. He attended SUNY Delhi before enlisting in the US Army during the Korean War where he earned a Purple Heart.

In 1955, he married Helen M. Martin. Together they moved to McDonough, NY, to start the dairy farm George had envisioned since he was nine years old. They ran the farm for over 30 years while finding time to volunteer in their community in a variety of meaningful roles.

George lived life fully every day of his life. The stories of his accomplishments, adventures, and misadventures will continue to inspire family and friends for generations.

George is survived by his four children: Susan (Dan) Cerretani, Robert (Judy) Schwager, Carole (Jim) Sylstra, David (Vera Daughton) Schwager; his sisters-in-law whom he loved like sisters: Carol Ryan, Shirley Brown, Gail Santucci, and Pat Martin; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, and his dog, SueBee.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Behe Funeral Home Inc. 21 Main Street, Oxford, NY.
