Esther mcgowan

Esther M. (Buckland) McGowan, 76, of State St., Oxford passed away on Thursday, September 13, 2012 at Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City, NY. She was born on May 13, 1936 in Binghamton, NY, daughter of the late Julius and Edith (Hawk) Buckland. She married the late Cecil J. McGowan on February 19, 1955.
She is survived by her children, Timothy McGowan and Connie Rowlison of Oxford, Cheryl McGowan and Rick DuBois of Oxford, Julie McGowan and John (Foxy) Souders of Unadilla, her brother-in-laws, Pete McGowan and Ken McGowan of Florida, Larry McGowan of Oxford, her sister-in-laws Elsie Dutcher of Oxford, Sylvia Buckland of Vestal and her grandson, Justin Boberg who is now serving in Afghanistan. As well as several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her brothers, Clarence J, Kenneth P. and Bert O. Buckland.
Esther was a long time member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 376, Oxford, and the Oxford Fire Department Auxiliary where she was truly known as one of the best cooks ever, many people can attest to that. She retired from the Norwich Shoe Company after 30+ years. Esther was a loving Mother, grandmother, and a great friend. In her younger years she cared for foster children in her home. She will truly be missed by her children and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, September 16, 2012 upstairs at the American Legion Post 376, in Oxford at 2:00 p.m. All are welcome to attend.
