Elfriede F O'Brien

Elfriede Florance O’Brien, 94, of McDonough NY passed away Thursday August 14th, 2025, at Norwich Rehabilitation and Nursing center.

Elfriede was born in The Bronx, NY on September 11th, 1930, to Elfriede Lammers. She graduated with a BS in English from Fordham University and became a Franciscan Nun. She taught English for many years. After she left her calling, she married her Husband, William “Bill” O’Brien and had two sons.

After her Husband’s passing in 1985, Elfriede went back to school at BCC and became an RN. She worked at Chenango Memorial Hospital in the Nursing Home until her retirement. After retiring she continued with helping others by working with Catholic Charities and being a home health care aide.

She was proceeded in this life by her Husband Bill, Sister Hilda Rosenblum, Brother in-law Larry Rosenblum, Nephew, Larry Rosenblum and eldest son Thomas O’Brien.

She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Laurie (Diamond) O’Brien; Granddaughter Kristina and her husband Chuck Williams, Granddaughter Jessica and her husband Joshua Hull; granddaughter Logan O’Brien and grandson Liam O’Brien. Her two great grandchildren, Archer Williams and Quinn Hull. Her niece and her husband, Debbie and Steve Kitsos and her nephew Alan and Terri Rosenblum

She attended and loved the St Joseph's Church in Oxford NY for many, many years.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Behe Funeral Home Inc. 21 Main Street, Oxford NY 13830. Calling hours will take place on Friday August 22, 2025, from 10:00AM to 11:00AM with a Mass to follow at St. Joseph’s Church in Oxford NY.
