Barbara j. williams

December 15, 1930 — June 15, 2018

Barbara More Williams, 87, went to be with our Lord on June 15. She was born on Dec. 15, 1930 to Irving and Hazel More of Afton. She is predeceased by her parents, 8 siblings, her husband Harry, son Daniel, and grandson James Boyd. She leaves behind 6 children; Dorothy (James) Boyd of Angier, NC, Harry Jr (Christine) of Temple, TX, Katherine (Michael) Wilcox of Greene, Susanna Colquitt of Oxford, Peter (Mary) of Norwich, Michael (Carol) of Oxford and daughter in law Paula of Oxford. Also 34 grandchildren and 31 1/2 great-grandchildren.
Barbara was very active for many years in Brisben Baptist Church, 4-H, and Grange. She also attended Faith Bible Church and generously supported mission work. She graduated from Afton High School and worked as a telephone operator in Harpursville until her marriage in 1949. She worked at the voting booth in Smithville Center for nearly 40 years. She worked beside her husband on the farm, raised 7 children, and had a big vegetable garden which supplied her family throughout the winters and many friends in the neighborhood. She loved baseball, whether it was her sons playing little league, grandchildren in college, major league, or Rumbleponies. Barbara learned how to ride a motorcycle at age 50 and traveled the back roads with her husband until she hit a sheep. She could ice skate, roller skate and walk on stilts. Many will remember how she made you feel special by remembering a specific event and praising accomplishments. Later in life she enjoyed watching the birds and keeping up with the happenings on the hill. She was famous for mending jeans, crocheting doilies, and her chocolate chip cookies.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Behe Funeral Home Inc. 21 Main Street, Oxford, NY 13830.
