Andrew J. "Andy" Scorza, 92 of Oxford passed away on October 28, 2014 at the NYS Veterans' Home, Oxford. He was born on October 2, 1922 in Brooklyn, NY a son of the late Joseph and Margurite (Greico) Scorza. On September 9, 1949 in Queens, NY he married Marie A. Gallagher, who died on June 27, 2005.
He is survived by his daughter in law, Ann Scorza of Oxford; his grandchildren, Jonathan Scorza of new York City and Suzanne and Mark DesFosses of Gale Ferry, CT; his great grandchildren, Lucy and Stephen; his sister in law, Joanne Scorza and children, Jeffrey, Cynthia, Valerie, Richard and Lesliie of Hershey, PA; his friend, Caroline Whitney of Norwich; and his nephews, Edward and Alice Cugell of Madison, CT. and children, Catherine and Charles Rambeau, their children, Ellie and Audrey, and Brian and Morgan Cugell and Emma; Gary and Sheila Cugell and family of Chestertown, NY, and Robert and Adriane Somers and family. He was predeceased by his son, Stephen Joseph Scorza and his brother, Bernard Scorza.
Andy graduated for Bishop Laughlin Memorial High School in 1941. He served in the US Army Air Corp during World War II. He was a member of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in Oxford, Fort Hill Post #376 American Legion and the Elks Club in Zephyrhills, FL. He was a member of the Northport Lions Club prior to moving to Oxford, when he joined the Oxford Lions Club. He enjoyed attending the morning Coffee Club at Mr. Chubb's in Oxford and attending and playing cards at the Oxford Senior Center. On his 92nd birthday he enjoyed a flight in an airplane around Oxford.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2014 at 1:00 PM at St. Joseph's RC Church, State St., Oxford with Rev. Ralph Bove officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemeetery.
Friends are invited to call at St. Joseph's Church Hall on Saturday, November 8 from 11:30 AM, where a lunch will be served, until the time of the Mass. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph's RC Church or the Oxford Lions Club. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Behe Funeral Home, 21 Main St., Oxford, NY.
