Judith S. Mitchell, 72 of Bainbridge passed away on December 18, 2013 at Wilson Memorial Hospital, Johnson City. She was born on November 7, 1941 in Elizabeth, NJ a daughter of the late Richard and Nell (Taylor) Shears. On April 28, 1962 she married James K. Mitchell, who survives.
Besides her husband, Jim she is survived by her children and grandchildren, Phillip and Margaret Mitchell and sons, Mark and Eric of Albany, and Barbara and Keith Fuller and daughter, Elizabeth of Oxford; her siblings, Katherine Shears and husband, David of South Hadley, MA, Lawrence Shears and wife, Valarie of Charleston, SC, and Jan Bielman and husband Mark of Monmouth, OR. Several cousins and an uncle also survive.
Judy was a very active member of the Oxford United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir and was a member of the prayer shawl group. She belonged to the Knitting Club in Norwich. She was an active member and officer of the Leatherstocking Railway Historical Society. She had worked at Chenango Memorial Hospital and retired from the Chenango County Mental Health Clinic. She enjoyed reading and her boxers (dogs)
A memorial service will be held January 4, 2014 at 11:00 AM at the Oxford United Methodist Church, with Rev. Diane DiLuzio officiating. Burial will in Riverview Cemetery, Oxford in the spring.
