Janet C. Gates, 81, of Clifton Park, NY, formerly of Oxford, NY, passed away peacefully Saturday, December 29, 2018 at home with her family. She was born in Oxford on June 22, 1937. She was the daughter of the late Franklin and Marjorie (Bassett) Crandall. On June 15, 1957 she married Robert J. Gates, who died on December 17, 2012. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Pamela J. and Martin E. Klepeis, Jr. and her grandson Daniel of Rexford; her sister Jeanne Paden of Oxford; her brother and sister-in-law David and Shirley Crandall also of Oxford; as well as several nieces, nephews, and friends. Jan was a loving wife, devoted mother, and beloved grandmother. She lived most of her life in Oxford before moving to Clifton Park to be close to her daughter and her family. She worked as an accountant at Chenango Mutual Insurance Company for many years before retiring in 1998. She was a graduate of Norwich High School, a long-time bowler, a Girl Scout Leader, a member of the Oxford Lionettes, an OACS band mom, and a member of the National Association of Insurance Women. She enjoyed sewing, crafts, reading, crossword puzzles, cooking, and baking. She was truly a wonderful person who will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
The family would like to thank Ellis Hospital, the Clifton Park & Halfmoon Emergency Corp, and the Eddy Visiting Nurse Association for their exceptional care and compassion. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at 11:00 AM at the Behe Funeral Home, 21 Main Street, Oxford, NY. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery, Oxford. Family and friends are invited to call at the Behe Funeral Home, Oxford, on Friday, January 4, 2019 from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
